Grant deadline early Wednesday!

Small businesses excluded from other forms of government support have until Wednesday to lodge an application for the discretionary grant fund. Small business grants have reached 85% take-up, according to the council. Nick Terdre reports.

Coronavirus statistical update: teething problems for test and trace

The app which the government was trialling on the Isle of Wight has had to be abandoned – a setback for the test and trace system which lies at the heart of the government’s strategy for containing the spread of coronavirus while progressively relaxing restrictions and getting the economy and schools functioning again. Modest active travel measures proposed for Hastings

With a first-round allocation of £479,000 from the transport ministry’s active travel fund, East Sussex County Council is now awaiting approval from the ministry for the measures it has proposed. Nick Terdre reports.

Sally-Ann Hart’s claims of “illegal migrants” contested

Hastings and Rye MP Sally-Ann Hart is concerned about refugees crossing the Channel in small boats and making landfall along the south-east coast. Tories and HBC at odds over relaxing restrictions

While local Tories call for restrictions to be relaxed, and toilets and tennis courts to be reopened, the Labour-dominated council says such facilities will stay shut for the time being and urge visitors to stay away. On 1 June the government is partially easing the lockdown. Nick Terdre reports.
