St Anne’s to be demolished despite committee’s decision

No sooner had proposals to redevelop St Anne’s church in Hollington been refused than there was an application to demolish it anyway. Hastings Borough Council (HBC) approved it in a delegated decision by planning officers. Bernard McGinley reports.

Sea Change claims ignorance of QGR budget change

As the spotlight is turned ever more searchingly on Sea Change Sussex and its projects, the economic development company has made the startling claim that it was unaware that the Queensway Gateway Road (QGR) budget was drastically reduced in 2015. HUFC planning applications approved but land not for sale

Despite Hastings Borough Council’s announcement earlier this year that plans to sell Tilekiln Fields to Hastings United for a new football stadium had been scrapped, the club’s associated planning applications have now been approved. Nick Terdre reports.

Pier-owner shamed by Tribunal decisions

When Hastings Pier was sold off in June 2018, the Hastings Pier Charity staff were transferred to the new owner too — for a while. Sheikh Abid Gulzar was a controversial employer. By late 2018 the Chief Engineer and his assistant had quit, and many others. At an Employment Tribunal in Ashford this week, the engineers Peter Wheeler and Daisy Hill stated their case. Sheikh Abid Gulzar did not even show up (nor anyone on his behalf). Bernard McGinley was among those in the room to hear the judge’s decisions.

Wheelchairs win in Harold Place application refusal  

The controversial restaurant that Hastings Borough Council (HBC) applied to itself to build was voted down 7 – 1, with 2 abstentions.  Bernard McGinley reports on planning disarray, and the platform lift the planning committee finally deemed ‘unsuitable’.
