Funding available for closed businesses through HBC

Financial support for local businesses obliged to close during the current national lockdown is available through Hastings Borough Council, which has also received funding enabling it to deploy dedicated staff to advise businesses on compliance with Covid-19 provisions. Grant deadline early Wednesday!

Small businesses excluded from other forms of government support have until Wednesday to lodge an application for the discretionary grant fund. Small business grants have reached 85% take-up, according to the council. Nick Terdre reports.

Warm welcome for decision to drop solar farms proposal

Despite government grants, HBC is still under the cosh

Council votes itself new powers to continue making decisions in the days of coronavirus

Hastings Borough Council and Energise Sussex Coast have signed a landmark agreement to work in partnership to tackle the impact of climate change in the town, as the council’s communications department explains in a statement.

New HBC leader needed after Peter Chowney’s resignation

Hastings is soon to get a new council leader following Cllr Peter Chowney’s decision to step down. He will however remain as a councillor. The new leader should be chosen in mid February. Nick Terdre reports.
