Greens and HBC’s climate champion differ over climate emergency record

A year after Hastings Borough Council unanimously passed a motion declaring a climate emergency and committing itself to taking action to make the borough carbon-neutral by 2030, what has happened? Not enough, says a disappointed Hastings Green Party. Quite a lot, even if not in public view, says the council’s climate champion, Cllr Maya Evans. Nick Terdre reports.

Grassroots initiative to identify what West St Leonards community really wants

Prompted by what are widely seen as inappropriate council plans for the old bathing pool site in West Marina, the West St Leonards community is now seeking to organise itself to have a greater say in what happens in its area. These efforts are being headed by the West St Leonards Forum, on whose behalf Bryan Fisher has issued this press release.

Strandliner’s Andy Dinsdale speaks to Sussex Wildlife Trust

Last month, HOT’s Zelly Restorick offered a plea to spread the word of the local environmental efforts of Strandliners. In a follow-up Emma Chaplin, Communications Officer for the Sussex Wildlife Trust, recently spoke with founder Andy Dinsdale for a personal insight into Strandliners’ work and the man behind the motto, ‘Cleaner rivers, Cleaner seas’. Can Hastings create a local food network?

On Saturday 22 February,  from 12 -2pm, a discussion is being held over the possibility of creating a local food work in Hastings. It takes place at All Saints Hall, All Saints St and immediately follows on from the Hastings Green Party AGM, but is open to all of any political persuasion and none. Support urged for Christ Church solar energy scheme following HBC refusal

Plans to install solar panels on Christ Church in Ore, while fully in line with Hastings Borough Council’s policy of boosting renewable energy, have run into objections from the council’s planners. Energise Sussex Coast, one of the project partners, is calling on town residents to post a supportive comment. Nick Terdre reports.
