Despite Hastings Borough Council’s announcement earlier this year that plans to sell Tilekiln Fields to Hastings United for a new football stadium had been scrapped, the club’s associated planning applications have now been approved. Nick Terdre reports.
In the face of a Green surge, Labour has lost its controlling majority on Hastings Borough Council, opening up the prospect of more collaborative decision-making in council chambers. Nick Terdre details the results of Thursday’s local elections.
Following the Climate Change Report to Cabinet on 4 October, Extinction Rebellion Hastings and St Leonards (XRHSL) took to the streets on the day of the last council meeting, 13 October, to demand the council accelerate active measures to combat the climate crisis.

Due to Government funding during the initial stage of lockdown there was a great effort to get the homeless off the street and housed in hotels, hostels or whatever accommodation could be found. That funding, sadly, did not last a year. Now, however, with the realisation of the difference a secure place to live can make, voluntary organisation are working together to support the homeless. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths was interested to find out how they and local councils are stepping up to help those who have fallen through the system.
Hastings is set to join the rest of the globe in marking the United Nations Anti-Racism day this Saturday March 2o. The day was previewed back on March 2 with an online talk featuring a host of local and national speakers. Local group Hastings Stand Up to Racism issued the following press release detailing how Hastings will be taking part in this global stand against racism and fascism.
Friday 22 January marked a historic moment as a United Nations ban on nuclear weapons officially came into force. Hastings was among the many municipalities to support the treaty when Hastings Borough Council voted in favour last October.
