Preventing Plastic Pollution!

On 18 November Andy Dinsdale and Beverley Coombes organised a Strandliners’ event: Preventing Plastic Pollution, funded by the EU’s Interreg fund, The Rivers’ Trust, Sea-Changers, Rother District Council and local donors. “It’s great to pick up rubbish from our natural environments and bin it, but is it enough?”, asks Andy. “What more can we do to prevent the plastic pollution in the first place?” HOT’s Zelly Restorick, a rubbish-picker-upper since coming to Hastings over 20 years ago, attended this event and reports on what she and the team did to go that extra mile. Local man awarded RVS Platinum Champion honour

Andy Dinsdale, founder of Strandliners based in East Sussex, has been awarded a Platinum Champions honour by the Royal Voluntary Service, due to his outstanding commitment to volunteering and service to the community. Only 70 Platinum Champions were chosen in each of the seven categories. Beverley Coombes writes.

Urgent help needed for ‘Bottles From…’

‘Bottles From…’ is a one-of-a-kind environmental project, catalysed by the government’s proposal to include a Deposit Return Scheme for drinking containers in the coming Environmental Bill. We are urged by Andy Dinsdale, executive director for Strandliners, a local community interest company (CIC), to record any glass or plastic drinking bottles and metal cans we see in our rural and urban environments and send our information to them by 31 May. Strandliner’s Andy Dinsdale speaks to Sussex Wildlife Trust
