Stagecoach confirms details of bus cutbacks

Details released by Stagecoach of changes in its East Sussex bus network show a re-ordering of several routes and a reduction in frequency on several local services. County council funding has ensured the continuance of parts of the service for six months which otherwise would have ceased . Nick Terdre reports.

Bus future still unclear though some Stagecoach cuts reversed

East Sussex County Council has received more than £41m to improve bus services, but has yet to disclose details of precisely how it intends to do so. However, it has moved to reverse some cuts announced by Stagecoach in Hastings services. Anna Sabin provides an update.

Bus plans

ESCC has been obliged to write a Bus Service Improvement Plan. To that end our Local Transport Authority says it will build an ‘enhanced partnership’ with the County’s bus companies – meaning they’ll staff up and take an interest. Anna Sabin takes a look at the proposals.

Active Travel: ESCC plan out to consultation as DfT announces £175m for new schemes

While a consultation is under way on East Sussex County Council’s walking and cycling plan, the Department for Transport has announced funding of £175m for projects approved in the second phase of its Emergency Active Travel Fund – together with stringent conditions to be met by councils applying for it. Cycling fatalities rose during first month of lockdown

While cycling blossomed during the first lockdown, so did the number of fatal accidents involving cyclists. Looking at accident figures over the years, it is clear that much needs to be done to bring the safety of cyclists to an acceptable level. Walking and cycling: “ESCC’s lack of ambition dispiriting”

Funding for walking and cycling infrastructure provided by the transport ministry’s Emergency Active Travel Fund has given East Sussex County Council the opportunity to demonstrate its ambitions for creating safe and practical transport arrangements for pedestrians and cyclists alongside the traditionally prioritised road traffic. After years of interacting with the county council, however, cycling enthusiast Tim Godwin has lost all faith in its ability to provide good walking and cycling solutions. Nick Terdre reports.

EV charging points on the rise

Hastings Borough Council’s Cabinet has allocated funding for the installation of new EV charging points in the town, in line with its climate change strategy. New charging points have also been installed in Morrisons car park as part of a national roll-out. Nick Terdre reports.
