Paul Barnett elected new Labour leader in Hastings

Just over a month before local elections, local Labour has elected Cllr Paul Barnett as its new group leader. While waiting to be endorsed as council leader, he will be in the forefront when Labour launches its election campaign in the town centre on Saturday. Nick Terdre reports.

Beatles Day back in the flesh this Sunday!

Hastings Beatles Day is back with us on Sunday 3 April, when the spaces of the White Rock Theatre will once more resound to the songs of the Fab Four. There will be new features including a music-making session for youngsters, and the takings will go to support local charity Sara Lee Trust. Council’s call to protect green spaces meets scepticism

Hastings Borough Council has scrapped plans to sell Tilekiln Fields in Hollington to Hastings United Football Club for redevelopment as its new football stadium. Its justification of the move – that green spaces need to be protected – was met with scepticism in some quarters. Nick Terdre reports.

Council calls off Bulverhythe Rec development

The prospect of a large housing estate being built on Bulverhythe Rec has disappeared following Hastings Borough Council’s decision to withdraw its application. Last-ditch attempt to turn MP on refugee bill

A vigil was held and letters handed in at the Conservative Party headquarters in St Leonards yesterday in a last-ditch attempt to persuade MP Sally-Ann Hart to reverse her support for the government’s Nationality and Borders bill, which looks likely to come up for a final vote in the Commons next week. Hastings turns out in numbers to show support for Ukraine

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has provoked among the local population strong reactions of revulsion against the Putin regime and expressions of solidarity with Ukrainians, as evidenced by the unexpectedly large turnout for a march and rally held on Sunday at short notice. Nick Terdre reports.

Free concert as Opus Theatre reopens on Saturday
