Come along and celebrate the reopening of the Opus Theatre in His Place community church at a free concert on Saturday, with a diverse programme of musical entertainment arranged by founder, director and composer Polo Piatti. Nick Terdre reports.
The future is looking brighter for His Place community church following the award of a grant from Historic England to perform detailed planning for an extensive programme of repairs and to research its musical heritage. An open day and free concert is planned on 12 March which the church hopes will help drum up community support for its bid for funds to implement the repairs. Nick Terdre reports.
White Rock Theatre has started to announce new events taking place there as from July 2021, but the Hastings Musical Festival has had to announce it is ‘going virtual’ for 2021 and the Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition is postponed from March to late June 2021. During the long wait for a bus, local artist and writer, Maureen Connett, has been pondering what can be done to cheer up the town centre, in particular the bus stops at Queens Road. She would have liked to share her art portraying local places in Hastings on the empty spaces at the bus shelters, but it looks like the Pandemic may have put paid to a ‘laudable initiative’. String music is the theme at St Mary in the Castle this Friday when the London Mozart Players return to Hastings for the second concert in their LMP by the Sea series. The finale will see them joined by 100 young string players from the area, writes Nick Terdre.
Celebrated Hastings-based composer Polo Piatti is looking for 20 committed singers to join the distinguished London Mozart Players performing the world-premiere of his powerful and emotional multi-faith oratorio Libera Nos. The new choir will also be joined by members of the Hastings Sinfonia, five soloists and a children’s choir. HOT’s Chandra Masoliver reports.
