Playing the Race Card, what does it mean to us in 2020?

The ‘Playing the Race Card’ project is to give BAME artists in the locality an opportunity to showcase their art and be in with the chance of winning an amazing cash prize of £500. There will also be online youth art workshops on Sunday 29 November. Nichelle Kelleher explains more about the ‘Playing the Race Card’ competition.

Last Friday Mama Putt’s restaurant in Kings Road St Leonards hosted the launch of an exciting new project called Playing the Race card. HOT’s Erica Smith was lucky enough to be invited and went home clutching the best goodie bag in the world – and a whole plate of food for thought.

Hastings Borough Council backs nuclear ban

Last week Hastings Borough Council voted to support a United Nations treaty to restrict the use of nuclear weapons in what is being hailed as ‘a new chapter for nuclear disarmament’ by campaigners. The Hastings Against War group issued the following press release detailing the council meeting, as well as promote their upcoming online screening of the anti-war documentary ‘War School’.

Commons bills offers glimmer of hope for legalisation of humanist weddings

Following the failure of a High Court application this summer to secure legal status for humanist weddings, a private member’s bill is now seeking the same end in the Commons. If this also fails, it is likely humanists will have to wait at least until 2023, when the Government is expected to implement recommendations for changes in wedding law from the Law Commission. Fuel poverty and energy debt advice available for households hit by Covid

Much needed advice for local households in fuel poverty and energy debt as a result of the Covid pandemic is now available thanks to a grant from British Gas Energy Trust to Hastings Advice & Representation Centre and Energise South Coast. Nick Terdre reports.
