Rossana Leal to give timely talk on the refugee experience

With the Government’s Nationality and Borders Bill such a hot topic at the moment there will be a timely talk on Tuesday 5 October by Rossana Leal of the Refugee Buddy Project. The talk has been organised by Hastings Against War and the Hastings and Rother Interfaith Forum. John Enefer of Hastings Against War fills in the background.

Nuclear war and weaponry

Currently – and hopefully not ‘inevitably forever’ – we are living in a world where some humans are – as I type these words – and now, as you read them – designing, co-creating and researching ever better ways to annihilate, harm, cause pain and suffering to fellow members of their own species. Hosting Hiroshima Day, Hastings Against War offers a reminder of the consequences and repercussions of nuclear war: just one variety of death and extinction measures manifested out of the minds and alleged genius of some members of  humanity. HOT’s Zelly Restorick asks you to consider this also – and to attend the remembrance event.

Hastings Borough Council backs nuclear ban

Last week Hastings Borough Council voted to support a United Nations treaty to restrict the use of nuclear weapons in what is being hailed as ‘a new chapter for nuclear disarmament’ by campaigners. The Hastings Against War group issued the following press release detailing the council meeting, as well as promote their upcoming online screening of the anti-war documentary ‘War School’.

Hands Up Project connects children across the globe

Last week, Hastings Against War and the Hastings and District Interfaith forum presented an online talk via Zoom discussing their Hands Up Project; an initiative to help put the children of war-torn Garza in touch with their young peers overseas. John Enefer details the encouraging enthusiasm displayed by many locals residents who took part.

Hands Up initiative for children of Gaza in the spotlight

In its annual joint event with the local interfaith forum, Hastings Against War presents a talk on the Hands Up project which puts Palestinian children in the blockaded city of Gaza in touch with their peers around the world. John Enefer explains.

Hiroshima Day commemorated

Last week saw the annual Hiroshima Day commemoration in Hastings. First held by Hastings Against War (HAW) in 2005, Hiroshima Day has been staged here annually since 2007. John Enefer reports.
