Online event will throw light on Napier Barracks scandal

Following the mass outbreak of Covid-19 at Napier Barracks in Folkestone, where several hundred asylum-seekers are being kept in inhumane conditions, Hastings Community of Sanctuary has arranged an online event next Monday to provide first-hand accounts of what is happening there. £110m at stake as Town Deal plan goes in

The Town Investment Plan – Hastings’ Town Deal bid – could bring more than £110m into the town to fund a range of projects. If the Town Deal board’s vision becomes reality, Hastings will become the South East’s first green city, with new housing, commercial and leisure facilities, new jobs and two regional ‘green skills’ bases. CCG fills information gap on growing vaccination service in Hastings and Rother

The growing network of vaccination sites is enabling immunisation against the coronavirus to gather pace in Hastings and Rother. The NHS East Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group has moved to fill the information gap on how the service is organised and how it works. Nick Terdre reports.

ESCC introduces mass testing to detect asymptomatic cases

Council calls for comments on draft Local Plan

The new Local Plan for Hastings is out to consultation in draft, and the council has issued a call for people to get involved and give their views – it will be the guiding document for planning for the next 18 years. Nick Terdre reports.

UN nuclear weapons ban comes into force

Friday 22 January marked a historic moment as a United Nations ban on nuclear weapons officially came into force. Hastings was among the many municipalities to support the treaty when Hastings Borough Council voted in favour last October. The Hastings Against War group recently issued a press release detailing what this will mean for the continued global bid towards nuclear disarmament. Words and pictures supplied by John Enefer.
