Sea Change’s North Queensway plans prompt many objections

Sea Change Sussex has filed its application to build industrial units on the site of the undeveloped North Queensway Innovation Park, prompting the submission of some 70 objections and a petition. Meanwhile Rother District Council faces a hefty bill after the company won its appeal against the refusal of an application for the Bexhill Enterprise Park. Nick Terdre reports.

Rollercoaster induces nausea over the Stade Amusement Park

The rollercoaster that has arisen by the Boating Lake on the Old Town seafront does not have planning permission, or an application, and wasn’t even notified to Hastings Borough Council (HBC) or the Foreshore Trust (FT).  Do Permitted Development Rights (PDR) apply? What about the issues of the perimeter fence and the footpath, so controversial a few years ago?  Will the Council or the FT take action?  Bernard McGinley looks at another fine mess, and also took the photos.

HBC refuses retrospective planning permission for unauthorised building

Despite the recommendation by planning officers to approve the retrospective application (HS/FA/20/00884) for a large house in the Martineau Lane area, Councillors voted to refuse it (8-1, with one abstention). What now for the building known as ‘Son of Bunker’? What next for local planning? Bernard McGinley reports. (References are to the video timings).

Save our Harrow Lane Playing Fields!

Four housing developments at the top of Harrow Lane, which are in various stages of application or approval, will drastically change the character of the area if all go ahead. While acknowledging the need to boost the town’s housing stock, Conservative Cllr Mike Edwards, who represents Ashdown ward, finds the prospect daunting, as he explains.

Bachelor’s Bump pile recommended for planning permission, despite ineligibility

In February the story was that developers up at Martineau Lane/Mill Lane were cocking a snook at the planners of Hastings Borough Council (HBC). Now the Council’s planners are recommending approval of the retrospective application despite the previous one. It looks like unconditional surrender or indulgence by the Council. The Planning Committee meets online on Wednesday 7 April. Bernard McGinley compares cases, often using their last three numbers.

Road project still a headache for Sea Change and ESCC

Despite its short length, the Queensway Gateway Road continues to be a major headache for Sea Change Sussex and its client, ESCC. The opening of the temporary link, originally expected in early 2021, is now mooted for August, while the original scheme may only come on stream in July or August 2023, almost seven years behind schedule. Nick Terdre reports.
