‘Playing the Race Card’
The biggest exhibition of Black artists on the south coast opens this Friday, 21 October and promises to spark debate and challenge racism. Opening during Black History Month, Playing the Race Card, features the work of 25 Black artists responding to their perceptions or experiences relating to the intentionally undermining term ‘playing the race card’. HOT’s Erica Smith looks forward to an empowering show.
Echoes in Electro Studios
The PhotoHastings Festival is definitely underway with more exhibitions scheduled at Electro Studios and Hastings Arts Forum as well as another few weeks of Photology at The Pig. Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went to see the latest Electro show Echoes:visualising thoughts and puzzling material (which can amount to the same thing) by Tracy Jones and Lucinda Wells.

Beauty and the Beast – this year’s Christmas panto at the White Rock Theatre
This year’s Christmas family pantomime at The White Rock Theatre is Beauty and the Beast. When an arrogant Prince is cursed to live as a beast, his only hope of salvation is to find love before the last petal falls from a magic rose. When pretty village girl, Beauty, comes into his life, is this the chance he has been waiting for? HOT’s Paul Way-Rider takes a look behind the scenes.
The Fabulous Red Diesel return to Ronnie Scott’s
After their highly acclaimed debut playing Upstairs at Ronnie Scott’s just a few months ago, The Fabulous Red Diesel are returning just before Christmas and there are still tickets remaining if you’d like to travel with them on their hired coach up to central London. HOT’s Zelly Restorick heard from lead singer-songwriter, Kat Lee Ryan (aka ‘Miss Kitty’) about the band’s latest adventures.
Unique art video collaboration to be shown at Hastings Contemporary
Entangled is a unique video collaboration between two special artists based in Hastings: photographer Paul Knight and composer Polo Piatti. The work is set to be premiered on Thursday 20 October 2022 at Hastings Contemporary.
