The adjudication of the 2021 online Hastings Musical Festival (HMF) took place on Saturday 27 June and the results are published on the website for Singing, Dancing, Instrumental, and Speech and Drama categories. The entrants were allowed to see the entries from their class and, if the other entrants agreed, to share their videos on a private platform. There were over 500 entries for Dance, over 200 for singing, over 150 for instrumental, and over 130 for Speech.
On Friday 25 June, Juliet Smith, Deputy Lieutenant for East Sussex, visited the Arts On Prescription (AOP) Friday session at His Place in Hastings town centre. Her visit was to recognise and thank the organisation for the support provided through lockdown to people in isolation across Hastings and the surrounding rural areas. Tonight Francis Viner, Patrick Kealey and Sam Sharples aspire to catalyse, inspire and create community communication with their pop-up film and connection event, ‘Arts On Fire’. Communication with the co-creative community of Hastings and St Leonards – and emanating beyond these boundaries – inclusive of all: artist and non-artist. (We’re all artists underneath it all.) They interviewed a number of creative expressionists, taking the temperature of the times, asking: How are arts creators faring? What keeps them going right now? What inspires and infuriates them in our unfolding pandemic world? What is at the heart of their process? What role does art play in their life?
