Stains & Traces at Hastings Arts Forum

Stains and Traces has taken a regular appearance in the HAF calendar in memory of Ian Welsh, a former Chair and champion of the Arts Forum who sadly died a few years ago, who has left this powerful exhibition theme as his legacy. Under the invited co-curatorship of artists Carly Ralph and Mary Morris – alongside selected artists Denise Jones, Annabel Faraday and Debbie Lyddon – HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths was eager to see how they had interpreted the theme.

Ian O’Leary’s take on the New Bohemians

Photography exhibitions are coming thick and fast in Hastings and St Leonards this year – and there are more to come. Ian O’Leary has slotted one in at Hastings Arts Forum between the PhotoHastings Summer Show at Stade Hall, Jeremy Llewellyn-Jones at HAF and PhotoHastings’ Photography Festival in October and November. Lauris Morgan-Griffiths reports.

Local panoramic seascapes in black and white

Jeremy Llewellyn-Jones was all ready to hang his exhibition last year at Hastings Arts Forum when Covid locked everything down. Now slightly revised, and with fingers crossed, it is ready to open. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths was intrigued to know more about his amazing seascapes taken at Pett Level, east Hastings, and Polzeath, Cornwall.

Young talent on display at Hastings Arts Forum

Hastings and St Leonards have a long tradition of creative energy and artistic exuberance. Historically, the town has drawn artists, writers and musicians, who have created work that is recognised nationally as well as internationally. But little recognition has been given to our very young, emerging talent. Until now, as an exhibition at the Hastings Arts Forum, Primary Art, Hastings and St. Leonards Young Artists, so well demonstrates, writes HAF member John Cole, who also took the photos.

Two worlds on view at Hastings Arts Forum

Most people feel reluctant to travel in these landlocked Covid times. Yet it is still possible to ‘travel’ to various places in memory while exploring documentaries, films, food in Italian, Spanish, French, Indian restaurants. And at exhibitions. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths explored the Two Worlds art exhibition at Hastings Arts Forum – the work of photographer Brian Rybolt

A colourful journey from Mexico, via Nice  to Hastings

Although we are always surrounded by colour, the changing tones of the sea, sky and trees the world has seemed a little bleak of late. So it is interesting to be reminded of the strength of colour – reds, oranges, blues and greens – that can lift a mood and evoke memories.  HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths found colour writ large in Harriet Macaree’s paintings at Hastings Arts Forum.
