Local man awarded RVS Platinum Champion honour

Andy Dinsdale, founder of Strandliners based in East Sussex, has been awarded a Platinum Champions honour by the Royal Voluntary Service, due to his outstanding commitment to volunteering and service to the community. Only 70 Platinum Champions were chosen in each of the seven categories. Beverley Coombes writes.

Nana Tsiboe, RIP

On Tuesday morning one of Hastings great men passed away. Percussionist Nana Tsiboe was born in Ghana. As a boy, he visited the United States with his family at the height of the civil rights movement in the ’60s and met Martin Luther King, Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X. For over thirty years Hastings was his home. Erica Smith pays tribute to a talented and well-loved man.

Maureen Connett, 1939–2022: a colourful life

Bursting The Bubble: new film from young carers

Local young carers have produced a new film sharing their experiences, to be launched on Young Carers’ Action Day! In partnership with charities, Care for the Carers and Culture Shift, the film, ‘Bursting the Bubble’, shares the young people’s experiences of caring. The film launches on 16 March as part of nationwide activities to mark Young Carers’ Action Day, with a special screening taking place for young carers, young adult carers, professionals and funders.

End of an era at The Horse & Groom

Women’s Voice gets vocal about its achievements

Women’s Voice invites all women to their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday 14 January at 6pm at the East Hastings Sea Angling Association (EHSAA), the Stade, just near the lifeboat house. The AGM will be followed by an evening of theatre, music, socialising and refreshments to celebrate the end of our This Is Not Love project.  The event is free, and all women are welcome. Women’s Voice chair, Ann Kramer, spoke to HOT about the upcoming event.
