Portfolios have been allocated to members of the Hastings Borough Council Cabinet and the new make-up of committees decided. Majority reduced, but Tories remain in control of ESCC

Liberal Democrat hopes of taking control at County Hall at the head of a coalition of anti Tory parties did not materialise, though the Tories failed to benefit from the surge their party experienced elsewhere, losing two seats. Meanwhile the Greens prospered, winning four seats, while Labour gained two seats beyond the Hastings border. Nick Terdre reports.

Patmore puts Tory case against Labour’s handling of HBC

Road project still a headache for Sea Change and ESCC

Despite its short length, the Queensway Gateway Road continues to be a major headache for Sea Change Sussex and its client, ESCC. The opening of the temporary link, originally expected in early 2021, is now mooted for August, while the original scheme may only come on stream in July or August 2023, almost seven years behind schedule. Asymptomatic testing starts in Sussex

A first stage of testing people who may have Covid-19 but show no symptoms has got under way in East and West Sussex. Testing is being carried out at two test sites and a number of participating pharmacies.

ESCC introduces mass testing to detect asymptomatic cases

Active Travel: ESCC plan out to consultation as DfT announces £175m for new schemes

While a consultation is under way on East Sussex County Council’s walking and cycling plan, the Department for Transport has announced funding of £175m for projects approved in the second phase of its Emergency Active Travel Fund – together with stringent conditions to be met by councils applying for it.
