DLWP hosts International Composers Festival

The International Composers Festival – the only event of its kind in the world – will be returning between 20 and 22 May, bigger and better than ever. For the first time, all the concerts will be taking place in the same major venue – the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill. Julian Norridge shares the programme for the weekend with us.

Local distinctiveness: What is it?

Local design consultant Ken Davis appreciates the range of architectural styles to be seen around Hastings. But he is concerned that rather than embracing the resulting character of local distinctiveness, planning policy consistently calls for congruency with existing buildings. All photos by the writer.

Jill Theis, saviour of the De La Warr Pavilion

Jill Theis, who died in March aged 90, will be remembered for her many contributions to public life, both when she served on Rother District Council and subsequently, but chiefly as the prime mover in saving the iconic De La Warr Pavilion. Cllr Sue Prochak, deputy leader of the council, pays tribute to her friend and fellow politician.
