Keen to encourage local people to get involved in decision-making about transport choices, Sustrans, the walking and cycling charity, has arranged a meeting to discuss these issues on Saturday 6 November. Julia Hilton, Green Party councillor for Old Hastings and Tressell, explains the background.
HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths was delighted to learn that local garden designer Kristina Clode has won two prestigious national awards for designing Sedlescombe Primary School’s sensory garden. The garden was selected for both the Design for the Environment and Judges’ awards by the Society of Garden Designers in an annual event which highlights the very best in horticultural design and innovation across the UK.
On Saturday 6 November, local grandparents will be staging a peaceful march along the seafront in Hastings. They want to express their deep concern for the environment and the legacy they are leaving behind for their children and grandchildren.

This week, East Sussex County Council was accused of failing to address climate crisis two years after declaring a Climate Emergency. HOT’s Erica Smith was one of many Hastings residents who donned a two-year old’s birthday party hat and took the train to Lewes to add her voice to the protest.
On Saturday, 9 October, Hastings Rental Health held their first public event in Hastings town centre to show the widespread concern over rising rents and the lack of affordable homes in the area. HOT’s Erica Smith reeled when she heard that last year the average house in Hastings ‘earned’ two and a half times the wage of the average local worker.
