Today, Monday 14 November, there were protests at more than 100 branches of Barclays Bank across the UK. Campaigners were highlighting Barclays’ investment in fossil fuels (oil, coal and gas). HOT’s Erica Smith witnessed the protest at the Hastings branch in the pedestrian area opposite Queens Arcade.
Following the Climate Change Report to Cabinet on 4 October, Extinction Rebellion Hastings and St Leonards (XRHSL) took to the streets on the day of the last council meeting, 13 October, to demand the council accelerate active measures to combat the climate crisis.
In response to the G7 Summit taking place in Cornwall this week, XR Hastings and St Leonards (XRHSL) is holding an action on the beach down from Bottle Alley on Thursday 10 June at 4.30pm, to highlight their concern at the government’s continued lack of action with regard to the climate crisis. HOT’s Erica Smith will be with the chapter of cyclists supporting the action.
On Saturday 11 July, Extinction Rebellion Hastings and St Leonards (XRHSL) temporarily installed 1,200 pairs of children’s shoes on Hastings Pier, in a performance installation entitled GONE. Erica Smith went to witness the fleeting installation.
