After three-year absence, piano competition prepares its return

The pieces are falling into place for Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition, which begins this month. Fifty young pianists will contest the £15,000 first prize, the jury has been chosen and a graduate orchestra established in partnership with the Royal College of Music will make its debut during the semi-finals. Hastings Fat Tuesday unveils new acts for 2022 festival

The organiser has announced further details for the 2022 Hastings Fat Tuesday Music Festival, the UK’s largest Mardi Gras and the ultimate mid-winter carnival, taking place between 25 February and 1 March. The five-day, town-wide celebration will present over 350 free gigs, gatherings, parties and parades, alongside ticketed events, with internationally acclaimed artists from across the globe appearing alongside a wealth of local bands.

Valentine music for the heart, from Hastings Sinfonia

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Hastings Sinfonia, along with five soloists, have arranged a Valentine Concert – Music for the Heart – consisting of many well-known pieces of music suitably full of passion. Nick Terdre reports.

Jerry Bergonzi: major coup for Jazz Hastings

Jazz Hastings has pulled off a major coup for its February session, which will feature the legendary Boston-based saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi, widely known around the world as ‘the saxophonists’ saxophonist’. Julian Norridge reports.

Hastings saves Electric Palace from closure

The Hastings community have come up trumps yet again. Through nervousness around Covid, lockdown and social distancing restrictions, the Electric Palace was heading towards closure. A fundraiser was launched and has saved the much-loved Electric Palace from closing its doors for good. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths, a supporter, is much relieved and amazed at Hastings’ generosity – as are the founders of the cinema.
