‘Pangaea’: a personal response to refugees arriving on our beaches

‘Pangaea’, conceived as a club night of global sounds to raise money for Hastings Supports Refugees (HSR), was Jaen Loftin‘s personal response “to the arrival of traumatised refugees on the beaches where I live, it was such a reality check. Women and children fleeing war and terror arriving here on our beaches”. Pangaea raised not only awareness of this situation, but over £1,200 too. Festival of Sanctuary returns with musicians, artists and a moving exhibition

Hastings Festival of Sanctuary is back – the annual event expressing local solidarity with those come to these shores seeking refuge from persecution will take place at Hastings Museum on Sunday 12 September. Local musicians and artists will contribute to a day of community, creativity and hope, says the organiser, Hastings Community of Sanctuary. Nick Terdre reports.

Refugee support groups unite to oppose Patel’s hard line against asylum-seekers

Vigil on the Stade to mourn family drowned in Channel

A well-attended vigil was held in the Stade Open Space on Sunday to mourn the family of five who lost their lives in the Channel last week. Seeking refuge is not a crime but a legal right, Polly Gifford of Hastings Community of Sanctuary told the gathering. Nick Terdre reports.
