Refugee support groups unite to oppose Patel’s hard line against asylum-seekers

With the start of Refugee Week approaching on Monday, Home Secretary Priti Patel’s ever harder line against asylum-seekers, backed by her apparent unwillingness to abide by the UK’s international commitments, has prompted refugee support groups to mount a collective campaign for a fair and humane system, as Felicity Laurence of Hastings Community of Sanctuary Campaigns team explains.

Anger at Napier reoccupation

Hastings Community of Sanctuary, along with other refugee support groups and parties, has reacted angrily to the Home Office’s decision to move asylum-seekers back into Napier Barracks, despite the many criticisms made by an independent inquiry and a legal action which would outlaw the move due to be heard this week. Home Office not planning Napier Barracks replica in Hastings, says HBC

Hastings Borough Council is not aware of any Home Office plans for an accommodation centre for asylum-seekers in the town, the Refugee Buddy Project was relieved to hear when it recently met council representatives. Nick Terdre reports.

Mass Covid outbreak in Home Office camp for asylum-seekers

A mass outbreak of Covid-19 has taken place in Napier Barracks, Folkestone, where the Home Office has consigned several hundred men seeking asylum in overcrowded and deprived conditions under the unsympathetic care of a private contractor.
