Fresh blood for council committees

Portfolios have been allocated to members of the Hastings Borough Council Cabinet and the new make-up of committees decided. Some newly elected councillors have found themselves with several committee appointments. ESCC Green councillor Julia Hilton has a place on the pensions committee. Nick Terdre reports.

HBC resumes face-to-face meetings

With the annual and full council meetings which take place on Wednesday, Hastings Borough Council is returning to face-to-face meetings. New faces will be present and some old ones missing, and committee memberships will have to be amended, including the Cabinet. Nick Terdre reports.

Rollercoaster induces nausea over the Stade Amusement Park

The rollercoaster that has arisen by the Boating Lake on the Old Town seafront does not have planning permission, or an application, and wasn’t even notified to Hastings Borough Council (HBC) or the Foreshore Trust (FT).  Do Permitted Development Rights (PDR) apply? What about the issues of the perimeter fence and the footpath, so controversial a few years ago?  Will the Council or the FT take action?  Bernard McGinley looks at another fine mess, and also took the photos.

Patmore puts Tory case against Labour’s handling of HBC

Andy Patmore, new leader of the Tory HBC group, explains where he thinks Labour’s leadership of HBC has gone wrong, as the party looks to improve its minority representation on Hastings Borough Council and maintain its majority on East Sussex County Council. HBC refuses retrospective planning permission for unauthorised building

Despite the recommendation by planning officers to approve the retrospective application (HS/FA/20/00884) for a large house in the Martineau Lane area, Councillors voted to refuse it (8-1, with one abstention). What now for the building known as ‘Son of Bunker’? What next for local planning? Bernard McGinley reports. (References are to the video timings).

Patmore chosen to lead Tory group

In a surprise move in the run-up to the local elections Cllr Andy Patmore has been chosen to lead the Conservative group on Hastings Borough Council. He promises to challenge the ruling Labour group’s handling of council affairs. Nick Terdre reports.
