Delivery/collection of food during Covid-19

In these bizarre, uncertain times we hear extraordinary tales about community. Both good and bad. At HOT we tend to lean towards the best in Hastings and St Leonards where there is a lot of good nature, humour and a very definite sense of community. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths has put together a list of some of the food outlets and shops that are at present delivering or have produce ready for collection so you can eat healthily, collect your goods and stay safe.

London exhibition for Hastings Project Arts’ Sharif Persaud

There is much to love about Hastings and St Leonards: not least the seaside and creativity here, but also the sense of community and support of people who are less well off or generally find life challenging. Project Art Works is a very special organisation that works creatively alongside people with complex needs. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths met up with creative director Tim Corrigan to talk about one of their artists/makers, Sharif Persaud, who has an exhibition of his work in London.

Crime detectives in fiction are, in the main, universally flawed: booze, womanising, personality disorders are rife. And those are the men. There is also a strong posse of women detectives with their own issues and another one is joining the throng; Elvira Slate. She is sassy, stylish, a criminal, bright and living in 1940s jazz age and time of the glamorous Hollywood super stardom. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths met up with Helen Jacey, Elvira’s creator to talk about her and the wonderful noir world of sleuthdom.

Australian summer blows into St Leonards

On these rainy, grey days there is an exuberant exhibition in St Leonards that lights the day. Summer has blown into the Solaris Gallery:  Susan Taylor – Australian Summer.  HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths was considerably cheered by the images that celebrate shapes, colour and nature with flowing complex shades and tones that lighten the dreariness of English winter.
