In this week’s episode, host Claire Doran (RSA) talks to social entrepreneurs Erika Rushton (The Beautiful Ideas Co, Liverpool), Sally Lowndes (The Onion Collective, Watchet) and Dave Hinton (Rebellion) about what it takes to move ideas into actions that strengthen and sustain a local economy that’s fit for the future.
As we begin to emerge from life after lockdown, we’re beginning to see that changes to our livelihoods are inevitable in this vibrant, creative coastal town. What can we learn from the experience of others that can help us seed and strengthen a flourishing local economy that will make us more resilient in the future?
We’re bringing together three champions of local enterprise, with a wealth of hands-on experience. Erika, Sally and Dave will share stories and practical advice on how they have channelled the power of people to create successful, sustainable businesses, adapting ideas about everything from mycelium to car-parks.
To begin shaping a just, sustainable vision of a resilient Hastings economy, our guests – and you, the audience – are invited to explore these questions:

● What opportunities are presenting themselves in Hastings right now?
● What will youdo to strengthen our local economy?
Join us as we continue to explore how ideas from elsewhere can help us build a Common Treasury that supports and serves every resident of Hastings.

Imagining life beyond lockdown: Upcoming
Since Thursday, 7 May, The Common Treasury of Adaptable Ideas has been exploring life beyond lockdown. In the final 2 weeks of our series, we’ll explore participation & celebration, two key ingredients in our recipe for social change.
Together we will continue to imagine how we can move from “what is” to “what if…?”
We hope you’ll join us to continue the fifth conversation on Friday, 5 June at 3pm.

The Common Treasury so far
In April and October 2019, the Common Treasury of Adaptable Ideas brought 12 great speakers with inspiring ideas from other parts of the UK to Hastings, for two live community conversations about social change.
The speakers fired our collective imagination (over 200 people took part) with stories and suggestions about how we could use their experiences to make Hastings a happier, healthier, more sustainable place for all. As participants joined forces to take ideas forward, Hastings’ Common Treasury began to emerge.
Then life changed
Covid-19 doesn’t mean these creative community conversations can’t continue: they just needed to take a different form, for now. In the spirit of adaptable ideas, we’ve taken our imaginative interactions and good vibes online, as we imagine life in Hastings, post-pandemic.
