ABOB’s Michelin inspired pop up lunch!
The charity, A Band of Brothers (ABOB), a burgeoning local community group, is putting on a special meal for the wider community, that includes your lovely selves. A pop up lunch event on Saturday 7 December 2019 at Home Ground Kitchen (HGK) between 12 and 3pm. ABOB mentor, Neil Brown writes.

A Band of Brothers (ABOB)?
ABOB work with young men involved in the criminal justice system, providing them with the support they need to make the transition to an adulthood free of crime and full of connection, purpose and meaning. They do this through their Quest Programme, which brings young men and adult role models together in an intensive contemporary rites-of-passage experience and an accredited mentoring programme.
The young men they meet have often experienced or witnessed domestic violence. They may have been abused or else kept someone else’s abuse a secret. They may have experienced neglect. They may have grown up where drug and alcohol abuse is commonplace and where positive adult role models are in short supply.
ABOB’s focus is to link adult male role models to these young men, giving them experiences that challenge them and support their growth, and providing them with a lasting community that supports them.
ABOB have seen an 82% reduction in the severity of offending behaviour after The Quest programme.

Pop up lunch on Saturday 7 December
This is an opportunity for the younger and older men to work together to present two tasty, nutritious and healthy lunch options: £8 eat in or take away. They are being mentored and supported by local Michelin recommended chef,
Nick Hales, who started up St Clements restaurant in Norman Rd 15 years ago.
The vegan/vegetarian option is one of Nick’s newest creations, a wild mushroom, kale and smoked tomato suet pudding with roasted squash and lentil gravy. The mushrooms are foraged by Nick locally and the tomatoes are smoked in his garden smokery. Yummm!

The other wonderful Nick inspired dish is a locally sourced Catalan fish stew with chick peas, potatoes, smoked garlic, pepper aioli and croutons.
Some drinks and possibly the best ground coffee in Hastings are also available.
Please come and enjoy a hearty meal and support ABOB by telling your friends and neighbours too. Any profit will go to ABOB charity after making a donation to HGK’s fundraiser.

Home Ground Kitchen is around the corner from Trinity Health Food Shop and Hastings Library in what is called Gotham Alley, down from The Printworks. Home Grown Kitchen is on the right hand side, a glass fronted cafe, a gem of a find.
