Coronavirus statistical update: Delta on the rise, in East Sussex as elsewhere

The rise and rise of the Delta strain of Covid-19, which has now made its appearance in East Sussex, has finally persuaded the government to postpone for up to four weeks the fourth and final step of the roadmap back to normality which was scheduled for 21 June. Coronavirus statistical update: male deaths are much higher, as are those of over 70s

As the coronavirus works its way towards peak effect, HOT is providing a regular update of the statistics for our region and the country provided by the public health authorities and other official sources. Further information on deaths was made available by the Office of National Statistics today, indicating a significant gender difference and a greater prevalence among people of 70 or over. Coronavirus daily statistical update: signs of levelling out in South East’s profile

As the coronavirus works its way towards peak effect, HOT is providing a daily update of the statistics for our region provided by the public health authorities. Numbers of confirmed cases, deaths and hospital bed occupation are all showing signs of plateauing. An interactive chart and map are now included in the update. Text and charts by Russell Hall.

How many intensive care beds do we need?

As the coronavirus continues to spread in leaps and bounds, we trust that the authorities are pulling out all the stops to enable us to tackle the disease as effectively as we can. Intensive care capacity is clearly a key element, and the only way to save those seriously affected. How many intensive care beds are we likely to need? The authorities have not said, but with a mass of data available on the course of Covid-19 so far, it is possible to make estimates. Russell Hall examines what the statistics are telling us so far, and also prepared the charts.
