Supported by an Arts Council England National Lottery project grant
The Wood People Connective have commissioned six local artists to create site-specific art installations using foraged timber and natural materials. Artists include Beccy Mccray, whose passion for our shared planet and creativity know no bounds – and the 2021 Turner Prize-nominated Project Artworks. Each artist is paired with a local community group (from schools, to people with dementia and those surviving the streets) to co-create and build together in the woods.

Design by Shaun Mills
The Wood People Connective have also curated intimate, acoustic music and nature-themed storytelling to place amongst the installations, alongside a programme of participatory craft workshops.
‘Wilding’ will open with a performance by the acclaimed musician, Gwyneth Herbert – in collaboration with Hastings Academy.
All by the community. For the community.
Wilding ultimately aims to ease us out of our lives in lockdown and back into the open air; connecting people, trees and nature through creativity.
We know that creativity and nature are essential for our well-being, yet disadvantaged communities – such as ours in Hastings, which has the 13th highest child poverty levels in England – typically have the least access to both. For this reason the festival is completely FREE and inclusive.
